Staff Reporter :Jamaat-e-Islami has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal for today (Wednesday) in protest against the Supreme Court verdict which upheld death penalty for Mir Quasem Ali rejecting a petition filed by him seeking review.The hartal will be observed in a “peaceful manner” from 6:00am to 6:00pm today (Wednesday).Ambulance, fire-service and hospital vehicles, press and other emergency services will be out of the purview of the shutdown.Mir Quasem, a central executive committee member of the party, is the victim of the government’s “conspiracy,” the statement said adding that their leader has been “deprived of justice.”In a statement, Jamaat acting Secretary General Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the strike soon after the SC judgment on Tuesday.The announcement also published on the party website immediately after the verdict.Earlier, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected war criminal Mir Quasem Ali’s review petition against its previous verdict in favor of his death penalty awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal.
