Staff Reporter :Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called a countrywide dawn to dusk hartal for today (Thursday) protesting the Supreme Court (SC) verdict that upheld the death penalty of party Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami.The announcement was made in a statement by Makbul Ahmad, Acting Ameer and Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Acting Secretary General after the court verdict.The statement said, “The government’s intension is to put the country into a devastating conflict by killing Motiur Rahman Nizami in a prescribed form.””We urged the people of the country including branches of Jamaat-e-Islami, farmers, labourers, students, teachers, intellectuals, civil society and the professionals to make the programme peacefully and successfully,” the statement read.
