Staff Reporter :Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will observe a countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for today (Monday) protesting the execution of its leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman. The party called the hartal on Saturday late night following the execution. Announcing the hartal programme in a statement, Jamaat acting ameer Maqbul Ahmed said Kamaruzzaman was ‘executed unlawfully’. “The execution of the death verdict is a planned killing in the name of the trial of Shohagpur mass killing. Kamaruzzaman had never gone to Shohagpur in his lifetime,” he said. He alleged that the “government became desperate” to kill the top leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami in order to wipe out the party. Maqbul Ahmed urged the leaders and activists of his party to make the hartal a success.Meanwhile, the party held countrywide prayer programme on Sunday for Kamaruzzaman. The party also arranged gayebana Janaza in different parts of the country.
