Staff Reporter :Jamaat-e-Islami has called a countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal for Monday protesting delivering of death sentence against its chief and former minister Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami on the 2004 Chittagong arms haul case. In a statement, Jamaat acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Friday made the hartal call. He said that they called the hartal, as the “government is hatching conspiracy to kill the Jamaat chief in a planned way”. A Chittagong court on Thursday delivered the verdict against Nizami, former state minister of BNP-Jamaat government Lutfozzaman Babar and some other high-officials of the military and civil administration.Dr Shafique said that the death sentence was given in a false and fabricated case. The court delivered the verdict as per the wishes of the government. This case is nothing but a conspiracy of the government to make the country leaderless by killing the political leaders of the opposition parties, he said.He called upon the leaders and workers of his party to make the hartal a success to raise the voice against the conspiracy.
