UNB, Dhaka :Jamaat-e-Islami called another 24-hour hartal for Wednesday protesting the verdict of the Supreme Court that upheld the death penalty of its leader M Kamaruzzaman which had earlier been awarded by the International Crimes Tribunal-2.The party had earlier announced a 24-hour strike for Thursday in protest against the death sentence of its policymaker Mir Quasem Ali for war crimes.The International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Sunday sentenced Mir Quasem Ali to death for his war crimes.The fresh strike means another 48-hour hartal from 6am on Wednesday till 6am on Friday.Meanwhile, the second-phase shutdown enforced by the party that began at 6am Sunday will end at 6pm on Monday instead of 6 am on Tuesday as it has reduced the hartal duration by 12 hours due to holy Ashura.Hours after the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 condemned Jamaat ameer Nizami to death for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War on Wednesday, the Islamic party announced the 72-hour staggered nationwide shutdown programme.
