Police in separate drives arrested 29 people, including a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, from different parts of the district. The drive was conducted from Friday till Saturday morning. A team of the Detective Branch of police conducted a drive in the town and arrested Saifullah, 43, former ameer of Sadar upazila unit Jamaat-e-Islami in connection with a case filed over attacking police.
Meanwhile, police arrested 28 people accused in several cases from different parts of Sadar, Lohagara and Kalia upazilas and Naragati area of the district, said Rakibul Islam, superintendent of police, Narail.
UNB from Natore reports : Police arrested the district BNP vice-president and former parliament member Kazi Golam Morshed from Alaipur area in the district town early Saturday.
Police said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on the house of the BNP leader and arrested him in the dead of night.
Kurigram Correspondent adds: Atleast 28 persons including 14 activists of Jamaat-Shibir and BNP were arrested in Kurigram in the last two days ending on Saturday.
Out of them 11Jamaat and 3 BNP are activists .The activists of Jamaat -Shibir and BNP were arrested from 5 upazilas in Kurigram district to avert untoward incident.
Police sources said they raided on Friday night and Saturday in some parts of the different upazilas and arrested 28 during two days . Arrested 14 Jamaat-BNP activists are Mokter Hossain of Chadpur Sadar upazila under Chadpur district,Shahidul Islam of village Admibari under Doulatpur Upazila of Manikganj and 14 others local people were arrested in different cases. SP of Kurigram Dr.Md.Tobarak Ullah admitted that and told that the arrested were sent to Kurigram jail custody.
UNB from Benapole adds: A local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was rearrested at Jhenaidah Jail Gate on Friday afternoon after his release on bail in a case filed for violence. The arrestee was identified as Azizur Rahman,70, former ameer of the district unit of Jamaat. Witnesses said a team Detective Branch (DB) of police detained Azizur as he walked out of the jail in the afternoon being freed on bail in the case filed against him under the Explosive Substances Act.
