The Jail Killing Day was observed in the city and elsewhere in the district on Sunday paying rich tribute to the four national leaders assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail on this day in 1975.
Chattogram City, North and South District Units of Awami League (AL), its front organisations, different socio-cultural, professional bodies and educational institutions observed the day through elaborate programs, reports.
The daylong programme began with the hoisting of national, party and black flags half-mast atop AL offices. Placing wreaths at the portraits of the four national leaders, wearing black badges, arranging Milad Mahfil, Khatme Quran, special prayers at mosques, temples, churches and other places of different worships and discussions were the main features of the day.
Marking the day, AL City and District Units organiswed a discussion meeting at different places in Chattogram on Sunday. Speakers at a discussion meeting here yesterday said the killing of the four national leaders in jail was the most shameful in the world history.
Terming it as a planned and deep-rooted conspiracy after the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15, 1975 the speakers said the killers wanted to erase the ideology and spirit of the country’s liberation struggle. Chattogram city AL arranged the memorial meeting on Zilla Parishad Auditorium last evening. City AL acting President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury presided over the meeting while AL leader, City AL General Secretary and city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, AL leaders, Noyom Uddin Chowdhury, Ibrahim Hossain Chodhury Babul, Adv Iftakher Saimul Chowdhury, and Badiul Alam, among others, took part in the discussion.
Speakers at a discussion meeting here said the killing of the four national leaders in jail was the most shameful in the world history.
Terming it as a planned and deep-rooted conspiracy after the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and his family members on August 15, 1975 the speakers said the killers wanted to erase the ideology and spirit of the country’s liberation struggle.
Apart from Chattogram City, North and South District Units of AL and its various front organisations, Bangladesh Chhatra League Chattogram University, City College Unit, Government Commerce College Unit, Islamia College unit and MES College Unit brought out separate processions on their respective campuses demanding proper punishment to the killers of the four national leaders.
A Doa Mahfil and discussion meeting was held at Islamic Foundation divisional office at Andarkilla on Sunday.
Chattogram north and south district units of AL also organised separate discussion meetings at its offices at Andarkilla and Doost Building in the city.
The discussion meeting of the south district of AL was presided over by its president Muslem Uddin Ahmed, and was addressed, among others, by general secretary Mofizur Rahman, AL leaders- Motahar Islam Chowdhury and Mujibur Rahman, CIP.
Chattogram North District AL observed the day through daylong programmes including discussion at its Doost Building office with its acting President A B M Fazle Karim Chowdhury in the chair.
