Athlete Jahir Raihan of Bangladesh will compete in the heat of 400 metre sprint of the athletics competition at the Tokyo Olympics in Tokyo today. After 29 years, an athlete of Bangladesh will take part in this event. Earlier, Mehedi Hasan of Bangladesh took part in the heat of 400 metre sprint at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Besides, Milzer Hossain of Bangladesh participated in the heat of 400 metre sprint at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
Jahir Raihan will compete in the Number-2 lane. Athletes from United States of America, Barbados, Brazil, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Congo and Slovenia will compete with Jahir Raihan. Jahir Raihan said, ” I want to perform my best in this Olympics.”
Jahir’s best timing in this event is 47.34 seconds.
It may be mentioned that shooter Abdullah Hel Baki, country’s best archer Ruman Shana, female archer Diya Siddique, swimmer Ariful Islam, female swimmer Junaina Ahmed of Bangladesh were out of the Tokyo Olympics. Of them, Ruman Shana, Diya Siddique, Ariful Islam, Junaina Ahmed showed their best performance in their respective events.
