The Dhaka University (DU) authorities observed the Mourning Day remembering the Jagannath Hall tragedy in a befitting manner on Tuesday.
The day is observed every year to pay homage to the memory of the students, employees and guests who were killed in a tragic incident at Jagannath Hall on the night of October 15 in 1985.
On that day, the roof of the dilapidated building of Jagannath Hall TV room caved in leaving 40 students, guests and employees of the university dead and hundreds others injured.
DU authorities observed the day with a series of programmes which includes mourning procession, placing wreaths at the memorial on the Jagannath Hall premises, hoisting black flags at several buildings, hoisting the university flag at half mast and offering special prayers at all halls.
A discussion programme was also held at the TV room of Jagannath Hall with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
