Ivy Rahman’s death anniv observed

The 13th death anniversary of Ivy Rahman, former president of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League and wife of late President Zillur Rahman, was observed on Thursday in a befitting manner.
To mark the day, different political and socio-cultural organizations, including Bangladesh Awami League (AL), its associate bodies and other likeminded organizations had taken elaborate programmes.
The programmes included placing wreaths and offering fateha at her (Ivy) grave at Banani graveyard in the capital, arranging milad mahfil and special prayers, and holding discussions in Dhaka and elsewhere across the country.
Central leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies paid rich tributes to Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths at the Banani graveyard this morning. They also offered fateha and doa seeking eternal peace of her departed soul.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain and Enamul Haque Shamim, Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua and AL City South Unit General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, among others, were present.
Besides, Awami Swechchhaasebak League, Chhatra League, Awami Jubo League, Mahila Awami League, Jubo Mahila League, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and other associate bodies of Bangladesh Awami League paid homage to Ivy Rahman by placing wreaths at her grave.
Begum Ivy Rahman Death Anniversary Observance Committee arranged a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city on Thursday morning.
AL Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif was present at the discussion as the chief guest.
Railway Minister Mujibul Haque, AL Organizing Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Vice-Chancellor Dr Quamrul Hassan Khan, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote President Golam Quddus and Swadhinata Shikkhok Parishad General Secretary Shahjahan Alam Saju and AL City South Unit General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, among others, addressed the discussion with former state minister for Liberation War Affairs Captain (Retd) AB Tazul Islam in the chair.
A milad and doa mahfil was held at the Ivy Concord Tower at Gulshan-2 in the capital after Asr prayers.
Apart from family members and relatives of the deceased, leaders and workers of Awami League and its associate bodies attended the milad and doa mahfil.
Ivy Rahman, who was also the women affairs secretary of Awami League, received fatal injuries in the grisly grenade attack at an anti-terrorism rally in front of Awami League central office on Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21 in 2004.
