Kushtia Islamic University student Ulfatara Tinni, is the younger daughter of late Freedom fighter Yusuf Ali of Sheikhpara in Shailkupa Upazila of Jhenaidah. She had just finished her Masters from Kushtia Islamic University and was dreaming of becoming a BCS cadre. Tinni could not fulfill her dream. She committed suicide at home on Thursday night.

According to relatives, Tinni’s elder sister Minni’s ex-husband Jamirul and his accomplices of the same village broke into the house on Thursday night. At that time, they entered Tinni’s bedroom and molested her. Tinni chose the path of suicide out of shame.
Minni, Tinni’s elder sister, said she got married a few years ago to Jamirul, son of Punuruddin of the same village. But they are separated out of the personal issues. Since then, Jamirul has been harassing their two sisters in various ways. A few days ago, the victims went to the local people’s representative and informed the matter. But no return yet.
Makhlesur Rahman, a cousin of the deceased, said Tinni’s elder sister Minni was married to Jamirul, a businessman from Sheikhpara Bazar, son of Punuruddin of the same village. But they were divorced over a family disputes later. However, Jamirul wants to get Minni home again. But if Minni did not agree, Jamirul had been torturing the family for a long time.
Local sources said, as there were no male members in the house, the family became helpless to face Jamirul’s torture. Around 10 pm on Thursday, Jamirul along with 10-12 people entered the Tinnis house of Sheikhpara and vandalized. Two hours later at around 12 am, Jamirul went to the house again and tortured Tinni.
The elder sister Minni complained that what Jamirul had done with Tinni on the second floor of the house was that in just 10 minutes I saw the body of my sister hanging with the fan. She alleges it was a premeditated murder. She committed suicide after undergoing something odd, Minni also allaged.
Tinni’s mother Halima Begum said, my daughter, is very talented. She has been preparing for the BCS exam. On the evening of the incident, she was threatened by Jamirul on his way home from a friend’s wedding in Kushtia. Our suspicion is that she was killed after being brutally tortured.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ariful Islam of Shailkupa Circle said that Tinni’s death was mysterious. Something has been done with her that has forced her to commit suicide. The matter can be confirmed after medical examination. We are keeping a close eye on the matter. Signs have been collected.
He added that the body was brought at Sheikhpara for burial on Friday afternoon after an autopsy in Kushtia Hospital.
