Prof Dr Akram Hossain Majumdar of Law Department of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, died of Covid-19 on Monday night.
He breathed his last at 12:50 am on Monday night while undergoing treatment at Ibne Sina Hospital at Kollayanpur in the capital, Professor Dr Nurun Nahar, chairperson of the Law department, confirmed the matter.
Dr Akram along with his wife Dr Maksuda Akter Munia, two of his children and his mother-in-law tested positive for Covid-19 while staying university residential area on the campus.
IU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Shaikh Abdus Salam, Teachers Association, Zia Parishad, Shada Dol, Officers Association and Law department have expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Dr Akram Hossain.
According to sources, Dr Akram was admitted into Ibne Sina Hospital in Dhaka along with his whole family on July 15 as their physical conditions were critical. Later, Dr Akram was taken to life support on July 25 as his physical conditions were deteriorated.
