Ragging is the sense and the behavior by which peoples especially students are tortured mentally physically in the name of Joking. Nowadays it becomes a tradition and a trend in our universities in which senior students tortured freshers physically and mentally. Some of them believe that this is the only way to introduce with freshers to be free minded and frank with them. But most often ‘behind the scene’ is different. They quip with them for their impish glee. Recently Ragging was the talk of the Islamic University (IU) campus. Some of the students who were engaged to keep the tradition of ragging. They thought ragging is the only way to close with their juniors. But some of the freshers grumbled that they were tortured seriously. A probe committee has been formed to investigate about the allegation of Ragging. While the IU administration formed a committee against ragging, freshers are fearing when they will be ragged, The Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (ACCE) Department showed a new approach, a different way to introduce, a different way to close with freshers against Ragging. The seniors of the department came to the freshers with lots of love, gave instructions with smiling face and welcomed them gifting flowers, chocolates pens etc.
A senior of his department came to them with an exceptional Idea. He welcomed them with 50 bunches of Calendula Flower tree.
The freshers were amazed and became emotional while taking the gift from seniors while other freshers are fleeing fearing of Rag.
Later, the freshers planted the flower trees in front of their department’s Laboratory.
Sushoma Akter, Sumon Shikder, Noor E Tabassum, Jannati Islam, Saiyara Sumona, Maruf Ahmed, Bappy Khan, Tarikuls Islam, Nabin Kumar among other fresher of ACCE express their feelings that ‘Really we are lucky with because we have senior brothers and sisters like them. They proved that ragging is not the way to communicate with fresher. But love and smiling face is the only way’
Md. Abdul Majid, an MSc Student of ACCE told that ‘we don’t believe in ragging but we believe in love. That is why we have superior bonding than any other dept. of the university and I hope in the country too.’
