The BNP on Saturday said that neighbouring Myanmar had shown audacity showing St Martin’s Island as part of its territory in its official map.
“Myanmar has been repeatedly showing St Martin’s Island as its territory in its map, giving threat to the Bangladesh’s Independence and sovereignty. The country is doing it only because of Bangladesh government’s a compromising foreign
policy,” said BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing in the party’s Nayapaltan office.
He said that the government had failed to take the issue to the global forum even after the Myanmar government’s repeated audacity.
The BNP leader said, “The government is not doing anything more than lodging a protest note only. As Myanmar is showing audacity repeatedly, then it is not enough to protest by summoning the Myanmar envoy.”
“The government of midnight voting has constantly failed to protect Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty,” Rizvi said.
The BNP leader said also the government cannot resolve the Rohingya crisis due to its subservient foreign policy.
He criticised the government after the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) filed two cases with Haripur Police Station in Thakurgaon on Thursday night against 272 villagers over Tuesday’s clash that left three people dead.
Even, the deceased namely teacher Nabab Ali and farmer Sadekul Islam killed in BGB firing were made accused in one case. Male members of the village have deserted their houses out of fear as the protectors turned predators. It seems that filing cases against dead people have become a programme of the government.
He said, ‘BGB is responsible for guarding the border, but they are now killing Bangladeshis as does BSF instead of discharging their main duties.
