Monir Hossain from N’ganj :
Selina Hayat Ivy, the newly elected Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC), took office for the second time on Monday morning.
She joined office around 11:30am, reports our correspondent.
Ivy went to the Nagar Bhaban on foot accompanied with the leaders, activists and well-wishers and joined office. People from all walks of life were seen standing on both sides of the roads from her house to Nagar Bhaban and sprinkled flower petals welcoming her for another term as Mayor.
Ivy thanked the people of Narayanganj for electing her Mayor for second term. She also expressed her determination to serve the city dwellers keeping outside party affiliation.
“I am grateful to the people of Narayanganj and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for choosing me to serve you again,” said Ivy after taking the office.
“My grandfather served you and then my father. Now it’s my turn and I will serve you,” she added with a note of emotion.
She further said the Mayor office will remain open for all. None will be allowed for tender manipulation or nepotism. I will serve people irrespective of parties.
Twenty-seven general councillors and nine women councillors of reserved seats have also assumed the office on the same day.
Ivy won a landslide victory in a peaceful election to the Narayanganj City Corporation held amid tight security and much enthusiasm on December 22.
She won the election with Awami League ticket defeating BNP nominated mayor candidate Shakhawat Hossain.
