‘Lee’ a robot made by a group of students of Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) becomes the first Humanoid robot made in Bangladesh which can walk like a human, the inventors claimed.
The 4 feet 1-inch (126 cm) Lee can walk like a human, talk in Bengali and can also answer any questions about Bangladesh and its liberation war. ‘The weight of the robot is 30 kg and It took around three years to build the robot at Tk 10 lakh by the ICT division’s invoice fund, said the team leader of Friday Lab of SUST Noushad Sojib.
Professor Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal is the Chief Advisor of the Friday Lab. A group of five students are behind the making of the robot. The Computer Science and Engineering Department’s 2009-10 session student Noushad Sojib is the team leader of the Friday Lab. Rest members are Mehdi Hassan Rupok from Architecture, Saiful Islam from Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mohammad Samiul Hasan and Zinia Sultan Joti from Mechanical Engineering. Programming parts are done by Sojib, Rupok was in design, Saiful Islam done electrical part, mechanical development was made by Samiul and Joti adds the artificial intelligence.
Rupok said, Lee can remember peoples face by recoding, can handle different types of gestures including handshake, dance, and salute. It has an 8GB RAM Core i5 processor, three motor controllers and a microcontroller and an android mobile in it. Operating system has been used as an Open Source Ubuntu operating system version 18.4. Java and Python programming languages, including robot control, motion, all the software have been created.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Junaid Ahmed Palak, inaugurated Lee at on April 20 at the ‘SUST Tech Festival’.
This robot’s database is quite rich about Bangladesh’s history and Liberation War, inventors claim that. Team leader Nowshad Sojib said that initially this robot can tell the important information about the country’s Liberation War, the names of the concerned people, the dates of several important events. It will be further developed in the coming days.
Zinia Sultana Joti, another member of the team, said, “We have added artificial intelligence to this robot. As a result, the robot can move along with talking in Bengali as well. It can also move hands and feet as a sign of gesture. However, he said that the inputs given in this light can speak and move.
A missing script from Bangla vowel is Lee. That was like 9 to see. The robot has been named Robot-Lee for remembering this vowel.
Lastly the team expects that in the future robots will be seen in various home-based appliances. This robot is created for Bangladesh, which can contribute to technology to make the digital Bangladesh grow faster.
