General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader on Saturday urged the party leaders and activists to refrain from making any comment that tarnishes the image of the party and the government.
“Some of the party leaders are making such statements that embarrass the party and the government. They should refrain from doing it in the interest of the party. They should rather work instead of delivering speeches, he said.
Obaidul Quader said this while addressing a programme at Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhnmandi to mark the 43rd death anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
organised by Awami Swechchhasebak League (ASL).
President of ASL Mollah Abu Kausar presided over the programme, while its General Secretary Pankaj Debnath moderated it.
“Bangabandhu once said that ministers always favoured going abroad,” Obaidul Quader said. “These leaders talk a lot, but work a little. I am urging the present leaders to remember those words,” he said.
He also urged activists to end the self-promoting practice using the photograph of Bangabandhu.
“Please end this competition of exhibiting photos. There are questions about the political commitment of those who use photos of Bangabandhu and our leader Sheikh Hasina for self-promotion.”
Nominations cannot be earned by using the photograph of Bangabandhu, but by doing good to people, he said.
He also dismissed claims of BNP leader Moudud Ahmed that there would be a ‘very quick’ change in the political landscape of Bangladesh. He said, people can only change the government. So, wait for the judgment the people will deliver in the coming election.
