Bangladeshi expatriates in Italy have started movement for facilitation so that they can return to Italy as visa tenure of most of them ended.
The expatriates said they came here in January and February on vacation, but failed to return as the international flights were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemics.
But with the help of Bangladesh embassy in Rome, numbers of Bangladeshis were returned home by special flights.
Meanwhile, the international flights have remained suspended for last several months while their visa tenures have expired making them worried about returning Italy.
On Sunday the Italy expatriates formed a human chain in front of Italy embassy at Gulshan in Dhaka to press home the three point demands including increase visa tenure, government’s assistance to gear up their return to Italy and Dhaka-Rome flights.
Holding banners asking government’s help for their return to job places in Italy, they put ahead their demands as well their miseries.
The expatriates said most of them exhausted their money and borrowed as they are living without any earnings for months together.
But the Italy government is yet to announce anything regarding visa tenure extending.
On July 6, several Bangladeshis found Covid-19 positive in a flight deported from Dhaka to Rome.
Following the incident, the Italy government suspended Bangladeshi people entering the country.
In the circumstances, the Italy expatriates are started the agitations for returning their workplaces.
The expatriates said they tried to contact officials direct in Italy through telephone but those officials asked them to contact with their embassy in Dhaka. But Dhaka’s Italy embassy has not said anything clearly.
“While we were trying to contact with Italy embassy in Dhaka, they provide different types of information. Many officials are used to receive phone call in different times and answers us differently. So, we failed to get any clear message about renewing our visas,” said Ruhul Amin Talukdar, an Italy expatriate businessman.
He said many of the expatriates have family visa and their house hold belongings are being lost as they cannot enter the country.
Hasnat Uddin, another expatriate said, the covid situation in India and Pakistan is not bether than us, but Italy’s flights with those countries are open.
They said the situation is clearly demanding the Bangladesh government’s efforts to make Italy agree to extend visa tenure and permit to start flights between the two countries.
The expatriates said it is the question of their life and livelihoods, so they have to continue peaceful agitations to return Italy.
