IT training launched for cyber security in banking sector

Thengamara Mohila Sabuj Sangha (TMSS), a non-government organization, has launched IT training for officials of both public and private banks to strengthen cyber security in banking and financial sector.
Strengthening cyber security in the banking sector is a must, especially with regular innovations happening in the ICT sector, speakers told a dissemination workshop on “IT training for professionals of Banking and financial sector” in a hotel here on Saturday.
State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan addressed the workshop as the chief guest with Executive Director of TMSS Prof Dr Hosne-Ara Begum in the chair.
Former Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan, Deputy Executive Director of TMSS Dr Motiur Rahman, Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of TMSS Nigar Sultana, Member of Board of Director of TMSS ICT Limited Md Khairul Islam, senior officials of different banks and financial institutions also addressed the workshop. Mannan said, “IT training for officials of banking sector is extremely important for promoting online banking sector as well as providing ICT-based services to the clients.”
Appreciating the initiative of TMSS to provide IT training for professionals in the banking and financial sector, he said both government and private initiatives are needed to incorporate ICT based service to banking sector, which eventually will bring dynamism in the entire development process of the country.
The analysts said almost all banks launched online services without taking proper precautions, and most of their IT systems are outsourced from private vendors. Lack of skilled manpower is a major problem in the banking sector, they added.
IT experts observed fraud prevention is an increasingly important issue, particularly for organization with an online presence as cyber crime is big and getting bigger every day.
As for banking, it is going digital to reach customers instantly and giving real time service. Commercial banks and central bank including IMF system are facing cyber challenge, they said system must be alert to keep it safe and speedy.
Prof Hosne-Ara said, “In order to ensure IT security in the financial sector, we have taken initiatives to provide training facilities for the officials to make sure better contribution to check fraud prevention.”
Alongside ensuring IT security in the banking and financial sector, she said, this training facilities will help further enhance the capacity building for promoting online banking in the country.
Nigar Sultana said ICT domain of TMSS is providing IT training facilities for professionals of different private and state-owned banks and financial institutions under pilot programme since last one year to supplement the efforts of the government to check cyber crime as well as bring dynamism in the banking sector.
“A total of 150 officials of banking and financial organizations took part in the training. As cyber threat has emerged as a bigger challenge to the banking and financial sector, such training facilities are extremely important for IT security and fraud prevention,” she added.
Consultant (banking training) of TMSS ICT Limited Md Abul Quasem told The New nation that “We are going to start IT related training courses on banking sectors including IT security and fraud prevention, payment card industry data security standard, IT application for branch managers, computer network administration and security management using windows OS.”
