IT literacy for women empowerment stressed

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki underscored the need for enabling the womenfolk in information technology (IT) to turn them into skilled workforces so that they can contribute to the economy.
“Literacy in information technology is a must to empower women.
Bangladesh cannot be a developed country if the womenfolk, half of the total population, remain backward in information technology,” she said this on Tuesday while speaking at a seminar at Jatiya Mahila Sangstha conference room on Bailey Road in the city.
Mahila Sangstha organized the seminar on “Information Technology toEmpower Rural Women” Perspectives and Implementation” under ‘Tottho Apa’project.
Women and Children Affairs Secretary Nasima begum, Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka KM Ali Azam, Jatiya Mahila Sangstha executive directorBegum Jahanara Parvin addressed the seminar, among others. Mahila Sangstha Chairman Advocate Momtaz Begum chaired it.
Chumki said the government has undertaken a Taka 544 crore project to
reach information technology facilities to the doorsteps of rural women.
Under the project, one crore rural women would be made IT literate, she
said.
