Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman emphasized on creating awareness among people about environment and conservation of natural resources and urged everyone to do something to make this world a livable one.
“We only have one earth to live, so we better star taking care of it.
It is the responsibility of every citizen to make this planet livable,” he told this while inaugurating a rally on the occasion of World Environment Day recently on the campus, said a press release.
The rally, organized by the DU arboriculture center and the estate office, was brought out from university’s Maal Chhater area which was later, ended on Carzon Hall premises after parading key points of the university.
DU Arboriculture Center Director Dr Mihir Lal Saha, university register, dean of different faculties, provosts of various halls, teachers and students of the university took part in the rally.
The VC said to facilitate the conservation of natural resources, the university has taken various measures which include forming environment clubs at different halls, tree planting program for environmental protection, raising awareness on plastic waste, installation of dustbins in different places and conducting clean-up campaign.
The Vice-Chancellor called upon the teachers and concerned persons to keep the premises of the campus clean and tidy as well and to make the students aware of the importance of preserving the environment.
Marking the Day, separate rallies were brought out on the campus by the university’s Geography and Environment Department while a seminar was organized at RC Majumdar Arts Auditorium by the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies.
Besides, different organizations arranged different programs on the campus to mark the day.
