IT Fair begins

A three-day Information Technology (IT) fair was inaugurated at the World Trade Centre in the port city on Saturday.
Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Mahbubul Alam presided over the inaugural function while Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Mohammad Abdul Mannan inaugurated the fair.
Speaking at the function the CCCI president said IT has become an essential element in the everyday life and it forms an indispensable part of the livelihood in the modern world.
The CCCI president said that CCCI is working to help build the Chittagong Technological Hub and the three-day IT fair is part of that initiative. The CCCI is also working to organize sector-based fairs in the near future at the WTC.
He urged the government to establish a technology hub in the port city by exploiting its potentials, as the country’s main sea port, biggest export processing zone, three major economic zones and major industrial zones are located in Chittagong.
Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan said the present government has recognized IT as one of the priority sectors and is providing all support to the private sector to enable them enter the export market for software and data processing services.
A total of 26 IT firms with 51 stalls from home and abroad participated in the fair jointly organized by CCCI and the Society of Chittagong IT Professionals (SCITP).The fair will remain open from 10 am to 8 pm daily.
Gold sponsors like Nokia and Smart Technology (BD) also set up their respective stalls in the fair.
SCITP President Abdullah Farid, honorary consul general of South Africa Solaiman Alam Shet, CCCI directors Wohid Siraj Swpan, Anjan Shekhor Das and former director Mahfuzul Haque Shah, among others, were present on the occasion.
