Bangladesh scored 232 in the first innings against Sri Lanka on the first day of the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.In reply, Sri Lanka were at the stumps with 60 runs for the loss of none.Bangladesh faced an early debacle losing four wickets for 59 runs.Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan repaired the damage contributing 86 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Shakib Al Hasan was trapped leg before wicket by spinner Rangana Herath. The Tigers total then was 145 for the loss of five wickets.Shakib Al Hasan notched up a sedate 55 from 91 balls. His 130-ball innings was laced with nine boundaries.It was Shakib Al Hasan’s 15th Test half century. He reached the 50-run landmark using 84 balls.After dismissal of Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain came at the crease. But his innings was short-lived as he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal off Shaminda Eranga for just four.After removal of Nasir, Shohag Gazi and Mushfiqur Rahim fought back adding together 53 runs for the seventh wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim was trapped leg before wicket by medium pacer Suranga Lakmal when the teams total was 203 for the loss of seven wickets. Mushfiqur Rahim hit a captain’s knock of 61 off 122 balls. His 177-ball innings was decorated with nine fours.It was Mushfiqur’s 13th Test half century. Mushfiqur crossed the 50-run landmark playing 90 balls. After departure of Mushfiqur Rahim, the tail-ender batsmen of Bangladesh failed to make any notable partnership.Shohag Gazi made a polished 42 off 56 balls amid six boundaries and one over boundary. Gazi was caught at the mid-on by Shaminda Eranga off Suranga Lakmal. Earlier, debutante opener Shamsur Rahman hit a notable 33 from 34 balls including seven fours.Fast bowler Shaminda Eranga captured four wickets at the cost of 49 runs while medium pacer Suranga Lakmal grabbed three wickets instead of 66 runs and spinner Rangana Herath bagged a pair of wickets in the space of 50 runs.Besides, medium pacer Anjelo Mathews took one wicket for 18 runs. Later, openers Kaushal Silva and Dimuth Karunaratne were at the crease with unbeaten 30 and 28 runs respectively before the two umpires pocketed the bails for the first day.
