To mark the 82nd birth anniversary of martyred intellectual Professor Munier Chowdhury, Theatre, a prominent theatre troupe in the country, organised a commemorative event recently at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, where Munier Chowdhury Award was conferred. This year, eminent dramatist, director-actor and Dhaka University Professor Israfil Shaheen received the Munier Chowdhury Award. As a result, he received Tk 5,0000 on the occasion.
Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi attended the award giving ceremony as chief guest and handed over the awards to the recipients, while Shah Alam Sarwar, Managing Director and CEO of IFIC Bank Limited was present as special guest. Chaired by Ferdousi Majumdar, Theatre’s director Ramendu Majumdar delivered the welcome speech at the ceremony.
While sharing his feelings to receive the award, Israfil Shaheen told this correspondent, “I never worked for an award, but it is true that this type of achievement, like Munier Chowdhury Award, inspires us. Receiving Munier Chowdhury Award is a pride for me. I want to work for theatre until my death.”
