Islamic University was declared closed for an indefinite period on Saturday following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over establishing supremacy on the campus that left seven students injured. The university syndicate took the decision in an emergency meeting at noon and asked the students to leave the dormitories by 5 pm today. Seven BCL leaders and activists were injured, including one with bullet, in the clash between two factions of BCL over formation of teachers’ recruitment board around 12 pm. Quoting witnesses, police said there was enmity between BCL president Saiful Islam and vice-president Mizanur Rahman Mizu over formation of the board. A clash ensued between the two groups when whey brought out separate processions on the campus today. On information, police rushed to the spot and opened fire in the air to bring the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed on the campus to avert further trouble.
