Farmers benefit every time by cultivating ‘auto beans’ in advance in Ishwardi Upazila. They are weaving a web of dreams because they are profitable again. Farmers are very busy with the service of ‘auto shime’. They are now spending their time tending to flowers and fruits in bean fields after leaving bathing and eating.
Bean fields can be seen across field after field in the direction of Muladuli area. Pink and white flowers with green foliage of bean vines catch the eye of passers-by. In the meantime, some trees have started to bear beans. Farmers of Ishwardi’s Muladuli Union dream of benefiting from Agam Auto Shim.
On Monday morning, various villages of Muladuli Union were visited on the ground, early bean cultivation is going on vigorously in Muladuli of Iswardi, which is known as one of the bean producing areas of the country. In the middle of Jaishtya, preparations for the cultivation of advance beans begin. Mounds or beets are made 12 to 16 inches high in the ground to protect the bean plants from rain water. They are auto bean cultivation in high bit. The bean plants of ‘Auto’ variety are already up in the loft and full of flowers. In the next 20 to 25 days these beans will hit the market in full swing. Farmers here get success every year in advance auto bean cultivation. That is why every year the cultivation of beans is increasing. A huge vegetable market has been developed in Muladuli of Ishwardi based on bean cultivation. During the season, an average of 25 to 30 truckloads of beans are transported to the district cities of the country including Dhaka, Sylhet, Chittagong, Barisal etc.
Farmer Hossain Ali of Baghachla village of Muladuli said that he cultivated beans on two and a half bigha land. 40-45 thousand taka are spent on each disturbance. If the plantation is good, it will be sold for 1 lakh 20 thousand to 1 lakh 50 thousand taka. He said that last year, early varieties of autoshim were first sold in the market at the rate of Tk 150 per kg.
Aras Khan, a farmer of Betbaria village, said that if the yield is good and the farmer gets a fair price, he will benefit. The farmers here have benefited a lot from the cultivation of early varieties of beans. Farmers are getting more enthusiastic about bean cultivation.
Aminul Islam Babu, Advisor of Muladuli Dainik Sabzi Bazar Samiti, said that the sale of early varieties of beans has not started. In the next 20-25 days, early varieties of beans will be available in the market.
Aliuzzaman, Agriculture Sub-Assistant Officer of Muladuli UP, said that early varieties of beans named Auto, Ghrit Kanchan and Rupsi are cultivated here. Farmers benefit from early varieties of beans, but they require excessive application of fertilizers and pesticides. Which is fatally harmful to health.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Mita Sarkar said that most beans in the country are cultivated here. The beans that are available in advance in the market of the capital are produced in Ishwardi. Beans are grown on 1,130 hectares of land. Out of this 850 hectares of land is cultivated in Muladuli Union alone. In 2021, beans worth Tk 81 crore 36 lakh were sold here. Farmers use excessive fertilizers and pesticides in growing soybeans which are very harmful to health. He said that various suggestions are being given to the farmers on how to produce early beans with less use of fertilizers and pesticides.
