The recent activities including the drives against Aedes mosquito of two city corporations have come to the light.
Despite taking special initiatives, the number of dengue patients is increasing in the city hospitals just ahead of monsoon season regularly.
In this situation, people are saying, ‘is the initiative of city corporations effective?
In this regard, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said that we are going to take more exclusive initiatives to eradicate the dengue outbreak in the city. As a part of the initiatives and considering the situation, 10 mobile courts will be set up in 10 areas under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) from June 15 to control Aedes. “People have high expectations to us. It is in this context that we feel we have more to do and that is how we plan our work this time. In the light of the work plan, we will start our activities in full swing from June 15. We have already applied for 10 executive magistrates in our 10 regions. Hope we will get it soon.
The mayor said that the combing operation would be overseen for a longer period this time than the previous time. “Last time we operated the control room for one month,”. This time we will run it for two months and through this control room we will supervise the combing operations.
Urging the people to cooperate in controlling dengue at this time, Mayor said, “Those of you who own homes, owners of installations, it is your responsibility to ensure that no water accumulates in your yard, roof, tub, or abandoned goods.” If it rains, you will see if water has accumulated somewhere. If water freezes, discard it rapidly. Do not wait for three days. Discard the accumulated water regularly, DSCC mayor added.
In this issue, Brig Gen Md. Zobaidur Rahman, Chief Health Officer of DNCC, told the New Nation that we have already successfully done 10 days special drive against Aedes mosquito.
Considering the upcoming monsoon season, we are going to take some social programs with the local community.
We have planned to implement area based awareness program with the councilor, renowned personality, Imam of musjid as well as school teachers. We believe that in this way we must control dengue outbreak, Dr Zobaidur Rahman added.
It is mentionable that a recent survey shows that capital city is at risk of a major dengue outbreak this year compared with the last couple of years.
According to the survey, Aedes larvae are found in at least 10 out of 100 pots in the capital city. This picture has come out in the operation by North City Corporation in the houses of several areas of the capital.
Marking the issue, entomologists have also expressed deep concern that the dengue situation could be dangerous with the onset of the monsoon season.
According to entomologists, there is no alternative to face the dengue crisis without a strong process of eradicating Aedes breeding grounds. Apart from this, the city dwellers should be more careful about keeping their houses clean regularly, they said.
Incidentally, according to the Department of Health. In the last 2021, 28,429 people were treated in the hospitals for dengue fever. And 105 lost their lives. Most of them were residents of the capital.
