Is mass arrest a sign of govt’s good wishes for free polls?: BNP

The BNP on Saturday accused the government of conducting massive arrest campaign against the party men across the country.
“Government is sitting with parties in dialogue as mark of their good wishes to hold fair election, on the other hand conducting mass arrest drive across the country. Is it a sign of their good wishes?” asked BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office after a joint meeting of the party and its associate bodies.
The BNP leader asked the government to stop arresting and harassing their party men.
The party announced a two-day programme to observe the National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ on November 7, 1975′.
As part of the programme, the party flag will be hoisted atop its all offices across the country on the morning of November 7, while party leaders and activists will place wreaths and offer Fatiha at the grave of late President Ziaur Rahman at 10 am on the day.
The party will also arrange a discussion in the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh the following day.
Apart from these, BNP’s front bodies will hold different programmes, including discussions, cultural programmes, essay competition, photo exhibition and publishing supplements in newspapers.
On November 7 in 1975, soldiers and civilians jointly freed the then Chief of Army Staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment amid political turmoil. It was paving the path for Zia to come to power.
