UNB, Dhaka :
Hitting out at the government for not arresting removed minister Abdul Latif Siddique despite having arrest warrants, opposition Jatiya Party on Monday questioned whether he is above the law.
In a joint statement, party chairman HM Ershad and secretary general Ziauddin Bablu said, “Latif Siddique has not only hurt the religious sentiment of Muslims by belittling Islam but also ignored Bangladesh’ s constitution.
People will never forgive him.” They said this is not comprehensible how the terminated minister came out of the airport dodging the police eyes despite having warrants for his arrest. “Is he above the law? We condemn the government’s role in this regard.”
The party demanded the government immediately arrest him and ensure his exemplary punishment. Or else, the two leaders threatened that their party together with people will wage a strong movement.
Although several court warrants pending for his arrest, 77-year-old former Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui returned home on Sunday night, nearly two months after his disparaging remarks against Islam in the USA.
Latif who arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Kolkata by an Air India flight around 8:40pm left the airport under an escort of law enforcers for an undisclosed location through the domestic terminal of the airport.
