Staff Reporter :The Islamic State (IS) has again claimed that its men launched attack on police at Ashulia checkpost on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Wednesday that left a cop dead and another critically injured, the US-based SITE Intelligence Group said hours into the brutal assault. The deceased was identified as Mukul Hossain and the injured as Nur-e-Alam of Sripur camp under Ashulia industrial police.The incident occurred 13 days after the murder of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police at Gabtoli checkpoint in the capital. The government, however, has repeatedly asserted that there is no organisational existence of IS in Bangladesh.Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzman, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dhaka Range) on Thursday rejected the IS claim terming it as bogus.  “The IS claim is not true. We are investigating the incident,” he told journalists.Police raided different areas of Savar, Gazipur and capital Dhaka and detained at least seven suspects in connection with the Wednesday’s attack on police checkpost at Ashulia.  “They have not been shown arrested yet. Police are interrogating them right now,” Assistant Superintendent of Police, of Dhaka district said.Additional Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Zaved Patwari said those who were involved in the attack, have been trained up.Senior Cabinet members, including Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, continued to reject the IS claim in the wake of the killings of two foreign nationals and attack on Shia community procession at Huseni Dalan in city.They (Cabinet members) are saying that in the guise of militant organisations, the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami continued to launch terror attacks in a bid to thwart the war crimes trial. Meanwhile, a three-member probe body led by Md Shahidul Islam, Additional Deputy Inspector General (Dhaka Range) has been formed to investigate the Ashulia attack The two other members are — Md Sayedur Rahman, Superintendent of Industrial Police, and Kazi Ashraful Azim, Additional Superintendent of Dhaka district police.When contacted Md Shahidul Islam said, “Time has not come yet to disclose who are responsible for the attack. However, my senior colleagues and the Home Minister have already talked over the issue. Along with my team members, I am now emerged in carrying out the investigation of the incident to nab the criminals and find out their motive behind the brutal attack.” Talking to The New Nation Mohsin Quadir, Officer-in-Charge, Ashulia Police Station, said the attackers will be nabbed soon.A case has been filed last night, suing two unknown assailants, over the incident, the OC said, adding an organized gang in a pre-planned way committed the murder.A special squad of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police on Thursday also visited the spot.Asaduzzaman Miah, Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has ordered the cops to fire on the criminals if they come under attack on security ground.Besides, he asked the cops to load their firearms with bullets, after meeting at DMP headquarters, a police official preferring not be named said. “The cops have also been asked to wear bullet proof jackets when they will be on duty,” the police official said.However, talking to journalists Jahangir Alam Sarker, Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP, said no official instruction has been given to cops but unofficially police have been asked to remain alert.
