The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will help the country’s farmers to expand climate resilient agricultural practices.
The two international organisations last week organised an inception meeting on ‘Piloting of climate resilient agricultural practices in Bangladesh’ at Feni to discuss learnings from the launch of climate resilient water saving alternate wetting and drying agricultural practices, according to a web-posting of IRRI.
At the meeting, a work plan to solicit feedback from policymakers, experts, farmers and other stakeholders associated with the implementation of the Muhuri irrigation project was recommended.
Prominent agricultural scientists, water management specialists and agricultural extension professionals from Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) and IRRI and 32 farmers participated in the event.
The event ended with high hopes of continued cooperation from all participants united by a common goal, which is to improve the livelihood of Bangladeshi farmers.
