Although the government has alerted not to adopt any unfair means in distributing the cards for rice among the poor and disadvantaged people at Tk 10 per kg , some elected representatives of the union parishad have been ignoring the directives.
Depriving the under privileged, they have sanctioned cards for some of the teachers of school and colleges and richest men of Jhenaidah Sadar upazila. Eight ward members of Kumrabaria Union parishad brought this sort of allegation against the union parishad chairman for his alleged involvement of doing so.
In an allegation to the Deputy Commissioner and Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Jhenaidah, ward members Anwar Hossain, Aker Ali, Maniruzzaman Tokan, Kalam Uddin, Salima Khatun, Nazrul Islam, Moklesur Rahman and Amjad Hossain said, UP Chairman Ashraful Islam ignoring the ward members have sanctioned rice distribution cards among the well to do family members where the poor and disadvantaged were deprived.
The names of Jamir Hossain, a lecturer of Nagarbathan MA Khalek College, Jahid Hossain, an assistant teacher of Defolbaria primary school and richest man Jamal Mistry were enrolled in the card list. Further, the names of many people namely Anwar Hossain who is the associates to the UP chairman was also enlisted for rice distribution, the ward members said.
When contacted Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Jhenaidah Sadar Mustafizur Rahman said, he received a copy of the allegation from some of the ward members. He had solved the problem through an amicable settlement between the petitioners and the UP chairman, UNO said.
