Ireland could scent Super-10 draw after beating the United Arab Emirates by 21 runs by D/L method in a rain-interrupted first round Group-B match of the ICC World Twenty20 Sylhet Stadium on Wednesday.
Ireland outplayed Zimbabwe by 3 wickets in their first match while the UAE lost to Netherlands by 6 wickets on March 17 at the same venue.
Replying to UAE’s 123 runs, Ireland scored 103 runs for 3 in 14.2 overs when rain started pouring.
Later, the Irish were declared winner by the D/L method.
One down Ed Joyce scored 43 runs off 38 balls featuring four fours and a six and adjudged man of the match.
Skipper cum opener William Porterfield scored not out 33 runs off 35 balls with two fours and a six.
Sharif Asadullah claimed two wickets for 21 runs while Amjad Javed captured one wicket conceding 18 runs, both bowled 3 overs.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, the UAE scored 123 runs for 6 in 20 overs with number five Shaiman Anwar making 30 runs from 28 balls including two six.
Opener Amjad Ali made 20 runs from 19 deliveries with four fours while Amjad Javed scored 19 runs off 21 balls with three fours.
Skipper Khurram Khan scored 16 runs 21 balls with a four while Rohan Mustafa and Faizan Asif nmade 13 and 11 runs respectively.
Ahmed Raza and Sharif Asadullah of the United Arab Emirates made their T20 debut in this match.
