UNB, Dhaka :
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is likely to arrive here on Wednesday in a ‘brief but crucial’ visit to discuss bilateral issues in the context of changed scenario following the deal signed between Iran and global superpowers.
“We’re trying to have the visit on September 16,” Iranian Ambassador in Dhaka Abbas Vaezi told UNB on Thursday. He said there has been a proposal regarding the visit and they are waiting for a response from the Foreign Ministry here.
“Bangladesh is very important for us,” the diplomat said laying emphasis on exploring the wider prospect of cooperation with Bangladesh as the sanctions imposed on Iran are expected to be withdrawn soon.
Vaezi said the Iranian Foreign Minister will arrive in Dhaka through a special flight once the necessary formalities are finalised.
The Iranian Foreign Minister will have a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart AH Mahmood Ali to discuss the areas of future cooperation, especially in the energy sector during his one-day visit, Foreign Ministry sources said.
He is likely to meet President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said another source. Earlier on September 1, the Iranian Ambassador shared the prospect of future bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
Earlier in July this year, Iran and six major world powers-Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, France and Germany- reached a nuclear deal capping more than a decade of negotiations with an agreement that could transform the Middle East.
