Iran topped the medal table of the men’s freestyle events at the 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships over the weekend, winning a total of eight medals, including six gold medals.
The 35th edition of the Asian Wrestling Championships was held in the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator from April 19 to 24 after an absence of 21 years.
Iran added three more gold medals, a silver and a bronze on the last day of the men’s events after grabbing three gold medals on Saturday.
Yones Emamichoghaei, Amirhossein Firouzpour and Yadollah Mohebi won in the 74kg, 92kg and 125kg respectively for Iran, while Japan’s Rei Higuchi was crowned at 61kg over Iran’s Darioush Hazratgholizadeh.
In the 86kg category, Azamat Dauletbekov of Kazakhstan defeated India’s Deepak Punia for the gold medal, while Bobur Islomov of Uzbekistan and Iran’s Mohsen Mostafavi took bronze medals.
