Iran tasted the first victory in the Islami Bank Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers beating Hong Kong by 2-1 goals in a Pool B match at the Moulana Bhasani National Stadium on Tuesday.
Chow Ho Yin scored for Hong Kong in the first half while Taherirad Navid struck twice for Iran in the 2nd half.
Hong Kong took the lead in the 18th minute when midfielder Chow Ho Yin coolly collected the ball at the edge of the D area and hit the 18 inches board with a controlled punch of the stick (1-0).
Iran refused to take matters lightly and made a comeback in the 45th minute. Norouzzaadeh Reza initiated a move from the midfield and Taheridad Navid pushed the ball home after dodging past Hong Kong goalie Hayward Andrews (1-1).
Navid again scored the match-winner for Iran with his 2nd goal in the 51st minute. Norouzzaadeh Reza and Navid played one-two towards the Hong Kong defense and Navid’s angular slap hit gave Andrews no chance to react (2-1).
Later, Norouzzadeh Reza was adjudged the man of the match.
Iran secured three points from two matches while Hong Kong is yet to open the account losing both the matches.
