IO’s sickness defers trial of Qaiser

Sickness of investigation officer (IO) Monowara Begum on Sunday has made the International Crimes Tribunal ICT)-2 to defer the hearing in the trial of Syed Md Qaiser, charged with committing crimes against humanity during War of Liberation.Yesterday was fixed for cross-examination of the IO, but the prosecution sought time citing her poor health. The second tribunal adjourned the hearing of the trial till July 20. The ICT-2 on July 7 had asked the defence to conclude her cross- examination in 2 days, July 13 and 14.Meanwhile, at the ICT-1, Barrister M Sarwar Hossain, counsel for detained Abdul Latif Talukder, submitted an application seeking tribunal’s order upon the investigation agency asking them to show him the last order passed by the Bagerhat Magistrate Court, by which the case was transferred to the probe body of the ICT.The tribunal asked prosecutor Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon to take necessary steps, so that the defence counsel can inspect the certified copy of that order.Latif, along with his partners in crimes Khan Akram Hossain and Sirajul Haque allegedly committed crimes against humanity including genocide, killings, arson attacks, rape, confinement, looting, and torture in confinement at different places of Kachua thana in Bagerhat during the War of Liberation.
