IO submits deposition against Mir Kashem

The investigation officer (IO) against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Kashem Ali on Thursday categorically said allegations of crimes against humanity against him had been found true during the investigation.
“Ali was the general secretary of Islami Chattra Sangha before 1971. As leader of the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami he made association with Pakistan occupation army and actively played a role to implement their plan,” IO M Nurul Islam said in his deposition.
Islam added that during the War of Liberation Mir Kashem personally took part in several gruesome crimes against humanity. After the deposition, defense counsel Barrister Nazibur Rahman started cross-examining the IO.
The three-judge ICT-2 panel headed by Justice Obaidul Hasan fixed the new date of hearing on April 15.
On September 5, the tribunal indicted Ali for alleged involvement in specific 14 crimes including rape, arson, looting, abduction, torture and murder committed during 1971. The members of the law enforcement agencies took him under custody on June 17 last year.
