UNB, Dhaka :
Terming enforced disappearance a crime against humanity, BNP on Sunday warned that it will punish those involved in enforced disappearances if the party is voted to power.
“The trial of those who had committed crimes against humanity in 1971 is being held now after so long. The same way the trial of those now involved in enforced disappearances and killings will be held once BNP gets back to power,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He was addressing a discussion meeting arranged
by Sabujbagh thana unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at Bhasani Auditorium demanding the government trace out its missing two leaders-Mahbub Hasan Sujon and Kazi Farhad Hossain.
The two JCD leaders remained missing since law enforcers reportedly picked them up on December 7, 2013.
“The fascist regime is killing and making the opposition leaders and activists disappeared by using police and other law enforcers to resist a democratic movement. Making disappeared in such a way is a crime against humanity as per the UN charter,” the BNP spokesman claimed.
Fakhrul said the law enforcers killed 310 opposition leaders and activists in just two months before the January-5 election and made 65 others disappeared. “They’ve continued committing the same offence.”
Claiming that the government is illegally holding office, the BNP leader said it will not be able to hang onto power for long by resorting to killings, enforced disappearances and other repressive acts.
He called upon BNP leaders and activists for getting united to pull down the current repressive regime for establishing a government of people. “Take to the streets putting aside divisions and misunderstandings.”
