Investors lose Tk 15,000cr market cap in one week

Investors lost around Tk 15,000 crore capital in the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) over the last week despite the market seeing a return of Tk 4,600 crore the previous week.
The stock market was on a losing streak on all five working days of the week.
All indicators of the market slipped during this period along with the share and unit prices of most companies as well as the turnover. Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) started the week with Tk 5,61,078.56 crore market capitalisation, which dropped to Tk 5,46,097.35 crore at the end of the week, down by Tk 14,981.20 crore or 2.67 percent.
The market capitalisation of DSE fell by Tk 5,172 crore on Wednesday and Tk 3,711 crore on Monday.
The DSE had a turnover of Tk 6,306.25 crore last week, which is Tk 686.36 crore or 9.82 percent less than the previous week.
The DSE’s benchmark index, the DSEX, fell 239.73 points, or 3.38 percent, to 6,853.09 points during the week.
Among other DSE indices, the Shariah-based DSES Index declined by 37.95 points or 2.56 percent and the blue-chip DS-30 Index declined by 92.08 points or 3.42 percent.
A total of 380 companies participated in the share and unit transactions on the DSE last week. Among the companies, the share price increased by 49 or 12.89 percent, decreased by 313 or 82.37 percent and remained unchanged at 18 or 4.74 percent.
Last week, the average turnover on the DSE was Tk 1,261.25 crore per working day, which was 137.27 crore or 9.82 percent less than the previous week.
Beximco’s shares were the most traded on the DSE during this period.
The company’s share turnover was over Tk 513 crore, which is 8.14 percent of the total turnover. Shares of One Bank came in second place with a turnover of Tk 500.53 crore and IFIC Bank came in the third position with a turnover of Tk 304.84 crore.
Also, on the list of top ten companies with the highest turnovers were FSIBL, Paramount Textile, NRBC Bank, Fortune Shoes, Delta Life Insurance, Genex Infosys and Prime Bank.
Meanwhile, on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), the overall index CASPI fell by 665 points, or 3.20 percent, to 20,058.12 during the week.
