Business Desk :
Return on investment in Bangladesh is much higher than its neighbouring countries, said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, adding that both sides would benefit if foreigners invested here.
He said this while addressing a virtual discussion entitled “The Spirit of the Victory Day and Today’s Bangladesh,” organised by the Bangabandhu Foundation on Monday.
Dr Momen said, “Many people brand Bangladesh a poverty-stricken, cyclone-ridden and corrupt country. But, Bangladesh is now a country of immense potential, a role model for economic development, the first in disaster preparedness, and a star in women’s empowerment.”
The foreign minister said, “The Padma Bridge is a big victory for us. We were able to build the Padma Bridge on our own despite all the conspiracies. If we can follow the path shown by the prime minister, we will surely be able to build the Golden Bengal that we dream of.”
“We want to build a people-friendly, business-friendly and corruption-free Bangladesh. Digital technology is helping a lot in preventing corruption,” he continued.
He called upon expatriate Bangladeshis to keep an eye on the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu. The minister said, “Some fugitive killers of Bangabandhu have taken shelter in different countries. In this regard, the Bangabandhu Foundation has already launched a signature campaign in the United States and Canada.”
Sheikh Kabir Hossain; Shahidullah Khandaker, senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Works; Kazi Riazul Haque, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission; Advocate Nurul Islam Thandu, general secretary of Bangabandhu Foundation; and Advocate Mashiur Malek, executive chairman of the foundation, among others, were present on the occasion.
