Investment proposals witness 17pc rise in July-March

Overall investment proposals with the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) rose by 17.08 percent (Taka 266.92 billion) during the July-March period of the current fiscal compared to the same period of the previous fiscal (FY 2016-17).
During this July-March period, BIDA received an overall investment proposals worth Taka 1829.28 billion compared to Taka 1562.36 billion during the July-March period of the previous fiscal (FY17), a BIDA press release said.
During January-March period of FY18, BIDA received some 408 investment proposals involving a total amount of Taka 305.21 billion.
BIDA said during this January-March period, it received some 373 proposals involving a total amount of Taka 264.79 billion from local investors and 15 fully foreign and 20 joint venture proposals involving Tk 40.41 billion.
According to BIDA, the highest number of investment proposals came for the textile industry sector, which was 27.36 percent of the total proposed amount. Proposals for the service industry sector were 21.15 percent.
Chemical industry sector came next with 20.01 percent followed by engineering industry sector with 9.31 percent, tannery and leather industry sector with 1.04 percent and other industry sector with 21.08 percent.
The investment proposals from local and foreign entrepreneurs are expected to create a total of 64,843 jobs in the country.
