UNB, Dhaka :
Four days into the seizure of more than 3kg cocaine from the luggage of a Spanish national and his subsequent arrest at Shahjalal International Airport, investigators are yet to glean any information regarding the consignment from interrogating him.
Last Tuesday, officials of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC)
arrested Spanish citizen Chiases Tjo Julian, 52, along with around 3.08 kg cocaine at the country’s principal international airport.
At 54 GBP per gram, the consignment would have a street value of over 160,000 GBP in the UK at 2013 prices, according to their National Crime Agency. DNC Inspector (Uttara circle) Kamrul Islam filed a case with Airport Police Station in this connection on Wednesday. DNC inspector Raju Ahmed (Lalbagh circle) was made the investigation officer (IO) of the case.
Contacted, DNC deputy director Mukul Jyoti Chakma told UNB that during the primary interrogation, detained Julian claimed he had no idea about the consignment. Claiming that he came to Bangladesh for touring the country, the detained said he could not understand how the consignment was put inside his luggage.
