The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit chief Monirul Islam hoped that the investigation into the murder of blogger Avijit Roy would end soon as the probe work has reached almost last phase in past three years.
“It was known that five more persons were involved directly with the murder. The investigation will end after their arrest. We are hopeful about the ending of the investigation.”
Monirul Islam came up with the disclosure while replying to a question of a

reporter at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media center in the city on Sunday.
“The murder case will walk to three years on February 26. Detective Branch (DB) of police started investigation from the very beginning of the murder. Then, DB and RAB personnel picked up seven suspects in this regard. The CTTC got the responsibility to investigate the case around three months ago. Later, three more were arrested in the case,” Monirul Islam said.
“Our investigation found that nine people including sacked army Major Syed Ziaul Haque were directly involved with this murder,” Monirul Islam said while talking to journalists at his office on the Mintoo Road.
Three of them have been arrested so far and all of them have confessed to their direct involvement in the case, Monirul said.
Another suspect in the Avijit murder named Saleh alias Arif alias Hadi was killed in a “gunfight” with law enforcers in the city’s Khilgaon area on June 19, 2016. But Police are yet to arrest the other five convicts.
“Once we manage to arrest the five, the charge sheet will be placed in the court after the end of the investigation,” he said.
If the law enforcers fail to arrest the five suspects immediately, we shall submit the charge sheet to the court with evidence we have at present, he added.
Avijit, founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was hacked to death by militants near the Teacher-Student Centre on the Dhaka University campus on February 26, 2015.
His wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya was also injured in the attack. Victim’s father Ajay Roy filed the murder case against unidentified assailants with Shahbagh Police Station.
