Staff Reporter :
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Sunday urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the allegations of corruption and irregularities in development projects of Jahangirnagar University (JU).
The ACC thinks JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam should stay aside from the post on a temporary basis for the sake of proper and fair investigation into her alleged involvement in the corruption and irregularities.
TIB also voiced grave concern over the news that the students, who continued staging demonstration against the corruption on the university campus, are being harassed deliberately.
TIB Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman in a statement said that the removal of two top leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of the ruling Awami League, was a positive move but it was not enough in terms of ensuring transparency and accountability.
The TIB ED in the statement, has regretted that the ACC has yet not taken any initiative to investigate the matter and said, “We urge the ACC to conduct a free and fair investigation into the matter and held the real offenders accountable based on evidence.”
