UNB, Dhaka :
Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu on Tuesday said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s claim about the number of killings, forced disappearances and cases filed against her party activists was purely false, and asked her to come up with a list of the victims in a month.
Talking to reporters at a press briefing about the country’s overall situation at the PID conference
room, the minister also asked her (Khaleda) to apologise to the nation if she fails to show the list of the victims as she claimed.
At a public rally in Rajbari on Saturday, the BNP chief claimed that a total of 304 people were killed and 65 made disappeared from October 25 to January 25 while some 32,000 ‘false’ cases were lodged against their leaders and activists.
About Khaleda’s remark about the January 5 general election, the minister said Khaleda Zia’s speech was against the country.
“She provoked militancy. Actually, she’s trying to legitimise her acts of sabotage and militant activities through her movement. “Please, stop these ill-attempts and stop spreading falsehood about Peelkhana carnage and Hefajat’s May 5 violence,” Inu said.
He again asked the BNP chairperson to make an apology for carrying out sabotage, killing and torturing people in the last three months.
Inu urged Khaleda to provide a practical framework instead of mysterious caretaker government proposal.
“Please, part your company with war criminal Jamaat and terrorist groups,” he urged Khaleda.
Replying to a question over Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim’s remark terming opposition activists anarchists and threatening to cut their limbs, the minister said, “We’ll have to behave in a democratic manner.”
Earlier on Sunday, addressing a function, Awami League presidium member Selim, said, “Those who will carry out subversive acts in the name of movement their hands and legs will be chopped down.”
