Introduction of reg system for safe child migration stressed

Project officials of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association on Wednesday afternoon informed that local government asked to introduce registration system to ensure safe child migration of rural children to urban areas.
During the press conference, organised by officials of Rural Urban Child Migration Project (RUMP), it was informed that government issued a circular on October 27, 2014 (no. 46.018.032.00.00.001.2011.800) to local government organs including union parishad and city corporations in this regard.
It that circular local government institutions were asked to take steps for introducing child registration system creating a database for whole Bangladesh to monitor and reduce child unsafe migration from rural to urban areas.
RUMP funded by European Union and Save the Children International under Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association organised the programme at Barisal Reporters Unity.
Masuk Kamal, project coordinator RUMP, presented keynotes and answered questions of the journalists in the programme.
He said that realising the actual needs and importance of the project government now formally directed Local Government Institutions (LGI) for enhancing awareness to properly and actively address unsafe child migration, forced labour, sexual abuse, trafficking and exploitation of children.
In the programme it was also stated that 2,000 children in ward of 9 and 10 under BCC and 6,664 children in four unions named Charkawa, Charbaria, Chandramohon and Tungibaria of Barisal Sadar upazila, already registered under online system and distribution of identity cards for them going on.
After ending the extended project on December 2014, the database of the project would be handed over to local government institutions at the project area with necessary equipments for updating, correcting data base and issuing identity cards locally, the project official added.
