Introducing rover scouting in all educational institutions underscored

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Friday said the government would introduce rover scouting at all educational institutions across the country as it plays an important role to instill humanitarian values into the children and juveniles.
“Though there are many rover scout groups in the country, we have a plan to introduce such group at all educational institutions,” he told the inaugural ceremony of golden jubilee celebration of Dhaka University Rover Scout Group at Teacher-Student Centre auditorium on the campus.
The minister said scouting movement would help inculcate courageous and democratic leadership qualities in the students.
Nahid said since the inception of the Rover Scouting in Dhaka University in 1966, it has been playing an important role in different disasters in the country as well as voluntary activities in the university.
Speaking on the occasion as special guest, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique lauded the role of the university’s rover scout group saying that the group played a vital role in the rescue operation of devastating collapse of a multistoried building “Rana Plaza” at Savar on the outskirt of the city in 2013.
“University’s rover scout always came forward to help in different crisis periods and disasters of Bangladesh. Their role is unparalleled,” he added.
The Vice-Chancellor said: “We are very much happy that the scout movement has reached to the present level after overcoming a lot of hurdles”
Chaired by Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, the function was attended by Bangladesh Scouts President Md Abul Kalam Azad and its Chief National Commissioner Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan.
Earlier, a colorful procession was brought out on the campus and the function was inaugurated through hoisting of flags and releasing of balloons.
