Campus Desk :The German University Bangladesh (GUB) is a government and the University Grants Commission (UGC) approved private university situated at Gazipur, the neighbouring city of the capital. GUB is founded by the members of German University Bangladesh Trust (GUBT) and the “Initiative German University Bangladesh e.V. (IGUB)”. The nature of both the organizations is non-profitable, non-government, non-political, voluntary and charitable. To the members of Board of Trustees belong to a group of Bangladeshi young and dynamic entrepreneurs and intellectuals. The Trust is registered in 2012 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. “Initiative German University Bangladesh e.V. (IGUB)” was also founded by a group of highly qualified German Professors of different German Universities headed by Prof Dr.-Ing. Saifullah Khandker, a Bangladeshi who turned into German and it is registered in 2007 in Berlin, Germany. Both the organizations, IGUB and GUBT have already signed an agreement in April 2012. The Main aim of IGUB and GUBT is to establish a fully residential “German University Bangladesh [GUB]” in Bangladesh with Association of leading German Universities. Initially, the University has rented a multi stories Building at Gazipur and started recruiting students. When fully commissioned it would be built on two and a half Hector Land and would ultimately be established at a Peaceful campus skirted by forest land at Guptabrindaban, Shagardighi 100 km northwest from Dhaka under Upazila Ghatail, District Tangail. GUB will be a specialized university with précised and specific purpose of developing skilled manpower in disciplines that would be mostly needed in the immediate future to address the complex of global economic, health and environmental anomalies of the 21st century. The University will help to develop faculties and techniques in a student to take up the challenges in the frontiers of the future with German precision. On graduation from GUB students will be the torch bearer of German technology. The prime objective of this specialized University will be – to introduce quality education and expand of some yet unexplored non-traditional scientific fields into the Bangladesh educational curriculum, Particularly; Environmental protection Technology, Food Science and Bio-Technology, Agriculture Science & Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Bio-Engineering, Human Health and Veterinary Public Health. These study fields has been categorized in 4-faculties and subdivided under more than 20 departments. Moreover, German experienced Professors will be responsible to maintain the Standard and Quality of Education as well as for the accreditation of Degrees of this University according to European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).Ultimately the University shall serve for building up a reservoir of highly skilled, scientific and technical manpower according to the global needs. GUB is committed to provide the students modern sophisticated laboratory facilities. Meanwhile Professor Dr. Sc. Dr. h.c.mult Michael Henry Boehme has been hired and appointed as the Vice Chancellor of GUB by the Board of Trustees. He has taken over the charge by this time. The university has already started its academic activities.The ultimate visions of German University Bangladesh are as follows: o Implement modernized German Higher Education Concept at GUB Curriculum o Mixed Faculty with Teaching & Research options of Professors/Scientists from Bangladesh to Germany and vice versa o Access of Bangladeshi Students to German Universities o The Students will learn and get the exposure to German work ethics, sincerity and dedication o Strengthen the ties between Germany and Bangladesh.
