Intra-party clash leaves 15 BNP men injured in Jhenaidah

At least 15 Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP men were injured in an intra party clash at Dr. K Ahmed Poura community centre in Jhenaidah town on Wednesday. Of the injured nine were admitted to Jhenaidah general hospital, while remaining were reportedly treated locally. The police brought the situation under control.
Eye witnesse said, the district unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party arranged an activists’ meeting at the community centre at about 10.00 AM with Jhenaidah district BNP president, also Khulna divisional organizing secretary Mashuir Rahman in the chair.
But a number of activists from Sailkupa upazila who were reportedly not invited to participate in the meeting tried to enter in to the venue led the chaos. Both the groups were locked in the clash continued for half an hour. At least 15 persons were injured and the doors and windows of the venue were vandalized during the time. Professor Joynal Abedin, advisor to the BNP chairperson attended the programme as chief guest.
When contacted, Prof Joynal Abedin said, some outsiders had tried to enter in to the venue to foil the meeting, while they had completed their meeting in due time.
Superintendent of police in Jhenaidah Mizanur Rahman when contacted said, a number of people engaged in the attack when they were barred to enter in to the meeting venue. The law enforcers brought the situation under control, SP said.
